Why mirrors enhance your home!

I dare say that there is not a home on earth

that does not have a mirror. Humans like and, well, need to see their reflection. But a mirror, or a group of mirrors, can add so much to your decor and the primary reason for adding them is to increase the light in your home.

You may choose a mirror that will make a statement like the one here, or you may choose a grouping of mirrors, ranging from three to an entire wall. Antique markets are full of mirrors ready to hang or that can easily be transformed into a striking focal point for your home. You may want to collect a certain type of mirror or a collection such as or hand mirrors ... there are so out there to choose from.

But there is a growing interest today in aged mirrors made popular by a specific retailer and it is not too difficult to achieve the name look with just a little effort. In addition, there are wonderful appliqués that can be added to make a mirror your own personal style and create the effect you desire. The possibilities are endless.

So while your are treasure hunting this weekend, keep an eye out for mirrors! You never know what you may find!

FOCAL POINTS

Want one spectacular focal point? A mirror will always answer your needs, especially if it is positioned opposite a wall of windows to capture the light.

You don't have to search for the real thing today, you can take any old mirror and age it yourself.

The result of the process is available at very high retail prices.

SEASHELLS ANYONE

One little hint here... Many years ago I created a gorgeous mirror with shells I collected at Santa Belle Isle which I still have today. The only problem, I chose an antique mirror to glue he shells to that was OAK! It is really heavy. Try a lighter mirror for your backdrop.

HAND MIRRORS, ANYONE?

Show the mirror or the gorgeous back. Should you find one used by Cleopatra?

DIY

As long as your mirror is sound, it doesn't matter if it is plastic or wooden if you want to transform it.. I painted a plastic one from a Mediterranean dresser and the outcome was terrific!
